Living water

I’ve written about happiness many times here on my blog and while the keys to happiness are pretty simple we tend to over complicate things. I’ve thought about why we take a seemingly easy task like making a decision to be happy and turning it into some impossible endeavor . Is it because we think anything worth having must be hard fought and agonized over for days, weeks or even years? Is it we feel undeserving unless we struggle or if our happiness comes to easy maybe we won’t truly appreciate it? Is connecting with other human beings or admitting we need help such a huge task we’d rather wallow in our misery? What if you were in the desert , walking many miles and just before you are about to succumb to dehydration you find you had a bottle of water in your backpack the entire trip? How good would that water taste on that day? I have found a fountain in the middle of the desert and I invite you to drink from it but I can’t force you to drink, if you choose to wait until you ‘deserve’ happiness or get the job,car spouse or whatever it is you think will make you happy then you do that. However when your thirst is great enough here’s that fountain.
1- make a decision to be happy today!
2- admit there’s more to life then just you, connect to others and help them!
3- do something you love!
4- be grateful for all you have!
5- thank God in good times and in bad!
You have to reprogram your mind, we are taught from early on that rewards makes us happy. It won’t be as simple as flipping a light switch to reprogram our brains but if you start with the above steps you can be happy!

  1. I like that list, I need to practice it more.

Methadone sucks. It makes even the happy bitter and twisted. Not the drug per say, more the system and enforcers behind it...
